This removes all of your old preferences and clears the cache so keep in mind that most or all of your settings will be lost. You will want to delete that entire “Quark” directory. The location is: C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Quark On Windows 7, 8, and 10 you will want to go to the following folder, copy it and make a backup of the folder somewhere like on your desktop, then delete the entire folder. The solution every time this has happened to me has been to delete the local preferences and cache folder so that QuarkXpress will create a new set of preferences and reload the cache the next time you try to start it. As far as I can tell, I did not do anything to cause a corrupted file, but it may be that somehow Quark did not shut down correctly or maybe just experienced a bug. This appears to be the result of a corrupted file, probably a cache file or preferences file. Solution! I’m still using Quark Xpress 8.5 which at this point is several versions old. This problem persists after rebooting the system and is present despite no other programs running on the computer. Clicking to wait or search for a solution does not help. If you click on the splash screen, it will gray out and Windows will say the program is not responding. When you launch QuarkXpress via a shortcut, doubleclicking on the executable, or any other method, the Quark Express splash screen shows up for a few seconds, then disappears and the program does not launch. ![]() With only occasional use of Quark, I’ve still run into this problem about once or twice a year.
